Former Microsoft SA boss takes the top spot at MTN

Microsoft SA’s previous MD Mteto Nyati has been voted in as MTN South Africa’s new chief executive officer, effective from today according to a statement released by the company. His appointment comes in the wake of last week’s surprise resignation by MTN’s previous CEO, Ahmad Farroukh.

Nyati joined MTN in October of last year, after helming Microsoft South Africa as the managing director for the Middle East and Africa region.

“He brings extensive knowledge of the local ICT market, and is passionate about people and customer service. We believe the appointment of a leader of Nyati’s calibre and competencies will greatly enhance our efforts to strengthen the confidence of our customers and reinvigorate our people,” said MTN Group CEO Sifiso Dabengwa in the official release.

Bloomberg reports that Faroukh is moving on to join Dubai-based Etihad Etisalat as chief executive officer.
