M4JAM going strong with 85k registered users one year after launch

Everyday, thousands of South Africans cash out between an accumulative amount of R2 500 and R15 000 to use on anything from transport fare, groceries, lunch, buying prepaid electricity and clothing, thanks to M4JAM.

The microjobbing platform’s CEO Andre Hugo revealed this, along with other stats to htxt.africa today as it celebrates its first year anniversary.

The company has managed to sign up over 85 000 users (including a couple of our own journos here at htxt.africa) in the last year and has had more than 90 brands/companies posting a microjob to be completed via the M4JAM account on WeChat.

Jobbers can cash out any amount from as little as R15 (a R4 fee is charged when cashing out any amount). One of M4JAM’s highest earning jobbers is Neo Ntshole who has earned approximately R15 000 over the last year doing micro-jobs.

User demographic stats which Hugo told us about late last year, provide a glimpse into who jobbers are, where they live, what they like and what they do for a living.

Bigger plans will seemingly be unfolding for the company in the near future as it also revealed today that it had acquired digital market research firm, Pondering Panda.

“The past year has seen what started out as following a passion, turn into the reality of changing the world one microjob at a time,” Hugo says about marking the first anniversary. “We have revolutionised the way real-time data and insights are gathered, while simultaneously empowering South Africans to make ends meet.”

“Going into year two, I’m excited about what lies ahead. We’ve kicked off with our new website, allowing jobbers to job wherever they have internet access, not to mention our acquisition of Pondering Panda which strengthens our value proposition with enhanced analytics. The next step is to take M4JAM beyond South African borders into other developing markets and continue to innovate as we develop an even more engaged community of both jobbers and clients – watch this space,” he adds.
