LG G4: What’s under the hood?

It’s easy to say that the LG G4 looks sleek and sophisticated with its handtooled leather case and curved screen.

The camera, of course, is also something you’ll immediately love – we’re yet to find another smartphone that delivers the same, DSLR-esque picture quality of the G4’s massive 16-megapixel sensor with f/1.8 lens.

But when it comes down to it, it’s what’s inside that really matters.

A smartphone sporting all the bells and whistles shouldn’t be slow, which is why the G4 comes equipped with Qualcomm’s 64-bit, hexa-core Snapdragon 808 processor.

It has a clock speed of 1.8GHz, a 3,000mAh removable battery and 3GB of RAM.

[su_box title=”HOW FAST?” box_color=”#f37021″]Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 808, 64-bit chipset is insanely powerful – it features dual-image signal processing technology for photos, so you’ll always get a clear shot of your subject, even in a low-light setting. Plus, the 808’s lightning-fast integrated X10 LTE modem is engineered so you can easily (and seamlessly) stream or consume media.[/su_box]

The LG G4 also has NFC support, 32GB of onboard storage and a microSD card slot that can hold up to 2TB.

A processor isn’t only about speed – a Snapdragon 808 inside means that Qualcomm’s IZat navigation technology is also included in the G4’s architecture. iZat uses the processor’s integrated data sensors to provide seriously accurate location sensing, even if you’re indoors.

Simpler, smarter software

LG’s G4 currently runs Android 5.1 Lollipop, with rumours that the incoming 5.1.1 update (or will it be Android M?) being just around the corner.

On top of 5.1 Lollipop is LG’s brighter and more colourful UI, UX 4.0, which is refreshing, easy-to-navigate and understand.

Looking at the key software built into the G4, LG has some standout staples to go along with preloaded apps like Gmail, Maps, Now, the Play Store and Chome.

One feature is Smart Bulletin, which gives you quick access to an entire home screen of native G4 features like remote control, music, the LG Health fitness tracker and calendar events.

Another feature worth a shoutout is Smart Notice, a digital assistant that shows personalised notification cards for upcoming events and weather info. There’s also Dual Window, which splits your screen so you can use two apps simultaneously, as well as LG’s KnockOn and KnockCode, which cleverly enables you to wake up or unlock the G4 with various tapping gestures while the display is asleep.
