Missing some mobile data? You are not alone

Although the price per gigabyte for mobile data has steadily been dropping over the last couple of years, it doesn’t mean that you have so much you won’t notice if some of it goes missing.

Some frustrated mobile users have noted missing mobile data, which they have complained about through various media channels. The matter has now reached the National Consumer Commission (NCC), who is looking into the allegations.

The main complaint from consumers is that they haven’t changed their data usage habits, but more data is being deducted from their account than usual.

“We learned from certain media reports that certain network mobile operators were proposing call and data increases to consumers. As such, we will audit the terms and conditions in relation with the Consumer Protection Act and its regulation,” said NCC Commissioner Ebrahim Mohamed.

Mohamed also noted that a similar audit was done in 2012 to make sure that mobile operators comply, but added that it could be time for another one.

“After we assessed all the information and complaints, we assessed the information and concluded that a reasonable basis exists to launch a full-scale investigation.”

A flood of complaints have also been streaming into Radio 702, who first raised the issue:
