Mr. Robot season finale postponed after Virginia shooting

USA Network has pulled the season finale of Mr. Robot following the tragic killing of two journalists in Virginia yesterday.

WDBJ journalists Alison Parker and Adam Ward were shot dead during a live broadcast by a gunman who then fled the scene. Shortly after the incident, a video of the shooting appeared on a Twitter account under the name Bryce Williams, stating ‘I filmed the shooting’. The alleged killer’s social media accounts on Twitter and Facebook were suspended shortly afterwards.

CNN has reported that the suspected shooter, Vester Flanagan, later died as result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

In a statement, USA Network cited ‘similarities’ between events that occur in Mr. Robot’s season finale and the shooting in Virginia.

“The previously filmed season finale of Mr. Robot contains a graphic scene similar in nature to today’s tragic events in Virginia,” USA Network said. “Out of respect to the victims, their families and colleagues, and our viewers, we are postponing tonight’s episode. Our thoughts go out to all those affected during this difficult time.”

The Network didn’t elaborate on how the incident in Virginia is similar to scenes in Mr. Robot, but says that the episode will air next week on September 2nd.
