You can now post landscape and portrait photos on Instagram

Rejoice, Instagram users: you will never have to cancel posting a photo because it’s to wide to fit into its square formatting. Instagram has added portrait and landscape format for all photo and video posts to give you a bit more space for creative freedom.

“Square format has been and always will be part of who we are. That said, the visual story you’re trying to tell should always come first, and we want to make it simple and fun for you to share moments just the way you want to,” the photo sharing service said on its blog.

According to Instagram, one in five posts are either in portrait or landscape and often users either end up cropping a huge chunk of their posts or giving up altogether.

You can choose between one of the three formats by tapping on the new format icon in the bottom left in when uploading a post. The posts will adjust into a preview of either portait, landscape or square.

In addition to this new feature, all filters on Instagram now apply to both video and photo posts and you can adjust the intensity of filters on videos.
