[MAP MONDAY] SA cities’ beautiful night lights as seen from space

If you’re of the opinion that urban sprawls are massive eye-sores, head over to the Cities at Night Kickstarter and gaze at some of the images on the campaign’s page.

The pictures on the site were gathered from NASA’s International Space Station (ISS) and Cities at Night is an initiative aimed at creating maps (in the same style as Google Maps) of the earth at night, in all its glittering splendour.

Alongside raising money for the project, the Cities at Night campaign is crowdsourcing information on locations in the images that have yet to be identified.

A number of cities and towns in South Africa have been identified on the “Night Cities” map. You can get in on the crowdsourcing by providing location information of any unidentified towns. Just click on the pinned location and follow the instructions.

Check out all the South African Night Cities images below, we’ve thrown a guess at what we think the unidentified location is as well. You can see all other Cities at Night maps on the project’s website.
