New uncapped ADSL package from OpenWeb prioritises gaming

Have you ever wished uncapped ADSL accounts would be a little friendlier to playing games online? Perhaps by prioritising game data over other types of traffic in order to keep your pings low and the frags coming?

Well, that’s exactly what local ISP OpenWeb has done. The company has just announced a new uncapped ADSL package via press release called Home Uncapped PLUS, which OpenWeb CEO Keoma Wright says “…is always unthrottled and suits most budgets. An emphasis has deliberately been placed on priority browsing and streaming, priority VoIP and low latency for gaming.”

Here’s the price list for the new accounts:

  • 2mbps: R249
  • 4mbps: R489
  •  “Up to 20mbps”: R1 299

This is quite a clever move by OpenWeb, as browsing, VoIP and online gaming are likely the three most popular things gamers do with their connections, which makes these packages a lot of appeal. But that’s not all: subscribers also gain access to what OpenWeb calls “Download Heaven”, which is entirely unshaped performance between midnight and 7am.

The company also announced the presence of network nodes in Durban, Cape Town and Johannesburg, which they say means great performance no matter where you connect from.

It’s great to see a local ISP working hard for South African ADSL users in this manner, and hopefully other ISPs will follow suit.

Find more information on the offer on OpenWeb’s Home Uncapped PLUS page.
