200 000 residents are using e-Tshwane to pay their municipal bills

The City of Tshwane has managed to register 200 000 accounts on its e-Tshwane municipal bills platform, announced via press statement.

e-Tshwane launched in 2013 as an alternative means to help home owners, companies and property managing agents pay their utility bills and avoid long queues.

Residents can also view their account history and interact with the municipality on the platform, and payments can be made for free at any of the more than 700 Project Isizwe free WiFi hotspots around the City of Tshwane.

All payments made on e-Tshwane reflect in real-time on the city’s register; the city said it’s currently finalising negotiations with third-party payment platforms to extend the system’s real-time functionality to more platforms outside e-Tshwane.

“The ability for citizens to interact with their city online has been further enhanced by the recent launch of WiFi Chat, a localised social network where citizens can discuss service delivery priorities as well as log service delivery faults across various city departments, and link faults directly to their municipal account number,” the city said.

The city said its next goal is to reach one million rate-paying households with the e-Tshwane municipal bills platform.
