Reminder: Telkom’s R599 uncapped LTE internet offer goes live today in more suburbs

Last week we reported that Telkom was to bring its R599 SmartBroadband Uncapped LTE offer to more Gauteng suburbs; this week, we thought we’d remind you that today’s the day you can sign up for it.

As of right now, anyone that lives in one of the 200 suburbs added to the list of locations it’s available will be able to sign up for the service. It’s Gauteng only at this stage, though; sorry, other provinces.

Want to see if you’re covered? Simply go to Telkom’s SmartBroadband Uncapped Wireless website and enter your address in the search bar, and you’ll see right away if you qualify.

Of course, you should also be aware that the original terms and conditions still apply: there are only 150 places per base station available, and the service will cost R599 to the first 50 people who sign up, after which it increases to R699 for the second 50 and finally R799 to the remaining 50 slots. It’s also a 24 month contract, so once you’ve signed up, it’s yours for at least two years.

It’s also time-limited, and will only be available for another 83 days and some change, according to Telkom’s site.

But none of that should put you off; should you live in a qualifying area, we’d recommend signing up. We use it here at the htxt.africa offices (and it’s not a freebie, we pay for it ourselves), and we’re pretty happy with it.

We regularly hit a Speedtest of 50mbps up and 5mbps down (sometimes even higher than that) with an antenna connected to our LTE modem, and while that’s short of the 150mbps the service is theoretically capable of, it’s a whole lot faster than our previous 4mbps ADSL and 8mbps WiMax connections offered, and for less money.

Telkom had apparently only received 400 signups for the initial offer that covered 29 locations across Gauteng, so clearly they’re hoping to bolster take-up by expanding the offer to more suburbs.
