Konami patches Metal Gear Solid V, fixes bugs, boosts login rewards

Konami has addressed two major issues with Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain in a patch; the save game corruption that could happen if you choose a particular ally on missions, and the dismal daily “rewards” players get for logging in to the game’s servers.

First, the bug; it emerged that players who took the character Quiet along with them on some missions risked breaking their saved games. Since players are limited to one save per profile, a corrupted save essentially  forced them to restart one of the longest games of recent memory (and no doubt inspired some serious anger). Konami was made aware of it last week, and promised a patch was in the works.

Happily, the company has completed and released said patch, which fixes the problem across all platforms. So if you’ve not yet reached either of those missions, feel free to take Quiet along when you do.

Secondly, in case you weren’t aware Metal Gear Solid V connects to Konami’s servers every time you start it up or you open up Snake’s iDroid, and once every 24 hours players are given rewards for logging in.

Thus far, though, the rewards haven’t been very generous, leading to more player complaints. Konami will temporarily fix this by boosting rewards for the duration of the Tokyo Game Show, which runs from the 17th to the 20th of September.

Gamespot says the patch is apparently live, although we’ve yet to see that for ourselves. The last time we booted MGS up from scratch was Friday (the game has been suspended and resumed every time we’ve played since then – PlayStation 4 ftw) so we can’t confirm it ourselves just yet.

Still, it’s great to know that players won’t risk losing 40 hours of progress now.
