Two months after the tragic passing of Satoru Iwata, Nintendo has announced that Tatsumi Kimishima has been appointed as its new CEO.
Kimishima, who started his professional career in the banking sector in 1973, got his first taste of gaming when he was appointed as Representative Director of The Pokémon Company in 2000. Two years later he was made Director of Nintendo of America. In 2006 he became Director and CEO of Nintendo of America, and the years following he took on other roles such as general affairs and human resources.
In an official announcement, Nintendo also revealed a few changes in in the top management at the console maker.
The two very familiar names here are: Genyo Takeda and Shigeru Miyamoto. Takeda created Punch-Out!! and StarTropics, while Miyamoto needs no introduction.
The management reshuffle comes at a rather unsteady time for Nintendo; the Wii U is still battling, the and the 3DS seems to be winding down. However, with a new console rumoured to be in production, and Nintendo taking Pokémon game into the mobile space, there may be reasons to be optimistic.
