GoMetro in line to win international transport entrepreneurship prize

South African rail and bus schedule updates app, GoMetro, may just add another award to its cabinet as it’s just been shortlisted as a top three finalist in the Mobility Enterprize (MobiPrize) 2015 transportation entrepreneurship competition.

Organised by the SMART Mobi Platform for innovation in mobility around the world, the MobiPrize awards entrepreneurs helping to improve people’s quality of life through sustainable transportation solutions.

GoMetro, along with two other South African transport mobile tech ventures, WhereIsMyTransport and Mellowcabs and 16 others from around the world, was nominated in the People’s Choice MobiPrize category which was open to public voting.

GoMetro received the second highest number of votes (315) , just behind Go Green Trikes from the US which received 339 votes.

“It was a real surprise, as the Global MobiPrize is a major global award in identifying high-impact and high-potential new mobility businesses. I think the judges valued the very compelling story that we have to share with the world with regards to transport enablement by means of technology,” GoMetro CEO Justin Coetzee said about being nominated in the category.

The top three receive 15 extra points added to their scores, and judges will vote for who gets to win the grand prize which includes a trip to India for the MobiPrize awards ceremony next month.

The winner of the People’s Choice MobiPrize category will be announced soon.
