Use data to tell stories and win prizes with SciBraai at Data Quest 2

The folks at SciBraai will once again be combining their love of all things technical to host Data Quest #2.

This time, Data Quest moves to Johannesburg and will see journalists, scientists, developers, designers, data analysts and science communicators will converge on The DIZ in Braamfontein on 9th October to tell stories through data analysis.

The data will be supplied by The Global Change and Sustainability Research Institute (GCSRI) and will cover a range of topics including rural firewood use and renewable energy, among others.

Scientists will analyse the data to find patterns and trends, journalists will find the story in the data while the developers and designers will put the data into visualisations before combining it all into one of many stories.

As would be expected with an event carrying the SciBraai banner, Data Quest #2 will be providing food for participants in the form of a braai when the hard workers break for lunch. There will also be snacks and refreshments provided.

The stories that are created on the day will be judged by a panel from SciBraai, GCSRI  and Hacks/Hackers Jozi. The best stories will be published on SciBraai.co.za and the teams responsible for their creation stand in line to win some great prizes.

Data Quest #2 is free to attend but registration with SciBraai is essential. Should you be interested in taking part SciBraai asks that you bring a laptop, if you have one, and take the day off because Data Quest #2 will run from 9:00 to about 18:00.

Free food, a chance to win some prizes and the chance to have your work published? Sounds like a good enough reason to take the day off to us.
