Eskom’s prepaid electricity goes offline

Customers making use of Eskom’s prepaid electricity in residential areas on Thursday experienced some difficulties in topping up their power.

In a statement, Eskom explained that “prepaid customers may have been experiencing a slow, intermittent, or offline service when buying prepaid electricity.”

The reason for the system going offline, according to the power supplier, is that a technical problem has cropped up with its main Prepaid Vending System. It is currently operating off of a back-up system.

It did however say that customers should be able to purchase prepaid electricity at all the normal vending outlets during this time.

For a full list of outlets or to find the nearest one, customers should call the Eskom Contact Centre on 0860 037 566, or visit Eskom’s website.

Eskom apologised for the inconvenience, and said “…we would like to assure all prepaid customers that we are doing everything possible to make the system fully functional again.”

It seems as if the problem originated late last night.
