Apple Watch South Africa launch date confirmed

Tired of watching Apple keynotes and wondering what you’re missing out on when Tim Cook talks about upgrades to the firm’s smartwatch? Fret ye no more, news just in is that Apple’s Watch will launch officially in South Africa on 23rd October.

Details about pricing are sketchy at the moment, but local distributor Core has confirmed that it’s iStore chain will stock the Watch from that date, and you can register interest for more news as it comes by following this link.

Up until now, South African’s wanting to get their hands on the world’s best selling smartwatch – which is reckoned to have sold around 3.6m units since launch – have had to import from overseas or buy through online retailers like Takealot or BidorBuy. The Watch Sport on those sites current costs around R9 000, while the Watch itself goes for R20 000 and up.

According to Core, both the Watch and Watch Sport range will go on sale with all the available accessories.

It’s good news for Standard Bank and ABSA, at least: both banks have Watch apps either available or ready to go already, even though few South Africans have been able to buy one yet.
