Eleven SA apps and tech companies up for “best African innovation” awards

Eleven South African mobile apps and tech companies have been announced among the finalists in various categories for AppsAfrica Innovation Awards 2015.

Mobile Monday South Africa, Uber and AppsWorld, iHub Kenya, CcHub Nigeria, Think Rwanda, MEST Ghana and Kenya andWomen In Tech Africa, the AppsAfrica Innovation Awards main agenda is to recognise outstanding ideas in the African mobile industry and technology entrepreneurship.

Over 200 submissions from 21 countries were submitted for the 10 award categories, some coming from as far as the UK and US where companies serving the continent are based.

South African entries received a nod in all but two categories. These are all the finalists:

1. Best disruptive innovation

2. Best mobile innovation

4. Best African app
Cross Dakar City (Senegal)bookly  (South Africa), Truppr (Nigeria), mPaper (Tanzania) and Tuluntulu (South Africa)

5. Best fintech innovation
Mergims (Rwanda)LipaPlus (Kenya) , SimbaPay (UK) ,VCpay (South Africa), Mastercard/ Standard Bank MasterPass app (South Africa) and  Verifone Mobile Money (Kenya)

6. Best health innovation

7. Best educational innovation

8. Social impact award

The AppsAfrica Innovation Awards ceremony takes place on the 16th November; winners’ prizes are yet to be announced.
