FNB Connect now has over 100 000 subscribers

Five months after launching its FNB Connect mobile virtual network operator (MVNO), FNB has announced that the service now has over 100 000 active users.

FNB was the first bank to launch an MVNO on the 15th June, issuing branded SIM cards to customers who had already signed up for the cellular service.

FNB Connect operates on the Cell C network and is only available to existing FNB customers.

Today the bank also revealed that 75% of FNB Connect users are on a prepaid plan, while 25% are on contract. Young people between the ages of 26-35 make up 40% of all users.

“We have been encouraging customers to take up a prepaid SIM and test the service before porting their phone number over or taking up a contract, so we are pleased to see that 25 000 SIMs have been activated on a contract basis,” FNB Connect CEO Ravesh Ramlakan said in a statement.

The cheapest 24-month contract package available on FNB Connect costs R30, giving you 30 voice minutes, 30MB data and 30 SMSes.

FNB hopes to attract more customers to the service and will over the next few weeks focus on launching active advertising campaigns marketing its features to audiences.
