UpForIt brings personalised nutrition to South African smartphones

Tech already does a pretty good job of encouraging us to get fit, thanks to smartbands and exercise trackers and so on. Now one South African start-up is hoping that it can make phones do for the diet what they’ve already done for the gym.

UpForIt promises to connect coaches and professional nutritionists with users to make living a healthier lifestyle, easier. A user or, Client, would log on to the app and get professional advice on healthcare and nutrition from a professional in the field.

The app offers four pricing tiers for those looking to shed a few kilos before the festive season. The free option includes nutritional tips, a basic meal plan and is suited for those looking to eat healthily and just improve their overall health. For R30 every month you can also get access to personalised meal plans.

Where UpForIt sets itself apart from other health trackers is in its 1-On-1 package. At a cost of R250 per month you will have 24/7 access to one-on-one coaching from a health and nutrition specialist that you are able to contact as, and when you need them. UpFor it has only contracted recognised and experienced health and nutrition specialists from various backgrounds to assist you when you need them.

The premium package bears an ominous “price on request” tag, and is more suited to athletes and those with chronic illness.

To register for the service you need to visit the UpForIt website, select your pricing tier and complete a short questionnaire. Once UpForIt receives your application it will pair you with a coach (if that option was selected) who you will then be able to contact via the Android or iOS app.

The launch of UpForIt bridges the divide between coaches and those that need them by making communication easier and removing the need to physically go and meet a coach.
