WhereIsMyTransport scoops R69k international transport innovation prize

Cape Town-based transport service startup, WhereIsMyTransport, has been crowned the winner of the Grand MobiPrize 2015 competition for smart mobility initiatives.

WhereIsMyTransport provides municipalities and transport providers with an API and commuter data with which to set up and run their applications; it’s also the creator of the FindMyway app.

Grand MobiPrize is organised by the SMART Mobi Platform for innovation in mobility around the world and awards entrepreneurs helping to improve people’s quality of life through sustainable transportation solutions.

WhereIsMyTransport received its prize at the MobiPrize award ceremony held in India on Tuesday, walking away with $5 000 cash (around R69 000) and access to mentorship and networking opportunities from global experts.

“We are thrilled and humbled to have won the Grand MobiPrize. Thank you MobiPlatform for this opportunity,” the company posted via Twitter.

“The MobiPrize jury felt that this initiative should be applauded for the significant efforts made in creating a solution addressing the needs of the emerging economies,” MobiPrize’s Kimb Seelye said in a statement.

Metrorail app GoMetro, which was nominated in the People’s Choice Awards category along with WhereIsMyTransport, Mellowcabs and 16 others from around the world, was among three winners chosen in the category, after having secured the second-highest number of votes.
