Here’s your chance to join the 500 Startups global accelerator in 2016

If being inducted as the second South African to join one of the world’s top venture capital and accelerator programmes sound like something up your alley, then you have just under a week to send your application.

500 Startups runs a four month programme where entrepreneurs from around the globe are chosen to move temporarily to Silicon Valley or San Francisco.

Once there, they’ll receive mentorship, hands-on sessions with industry experts, access to the program’s network of connections, funding worth $125 000 (around R1.5 million) for 5% equity in their business and to become part of a community where they can link up with other entrepreneurs.

Earlier this year, cleaning startup, SweepSouth became the first South African startup to join one of the 500 Startups programme batches.

Other big names that have gone through 500 Startups include MakerBot and Twilio.

Successful applications for 2016’s first batch will be hosted in San Francisco from the 12th January. Entries close on Tuesday, 1st December.

If you’re interested, apply on the 500 Startups website.
