Soon you’ll be able to use PS4 Remote Play on PC and Mac

After announcing that it had sold in excess of 30 million PS4 consoles earlier this week, Sony clearly doesn’t plan on resting on its laurels.

The President of Worldwide Studios at Sony, Shuhei Yoshida has revealed the company is working on a Remote Play app for PC and Mac.

For those that are unfamiliar with the concept, Remote Play lets you stream your PS4 games to your PS Vita or a Sony Xperia smartphone, though this is somewhat limiting for those outside of the Sony ecosystem. The release of an app for two additional platforms should make the feature a bit more popular.

This move will give Sony its own version of Microsoft’s game-streaming functionality that lets gamers stream their Xbox One games to their PCs through the Xbox App on Windows 10.

While this is a brilliant step in the right direction, there’s no news at this point whether Sony has any plans to release streaming apps for non-Sony Android phones or iOS.

For the first time in a while in this generation’s Great Console War, Sony appears to be somewhat on the back foot as the Xbox One has the PlayStation 4 beat when it comes to streaming and backwards compatibility, and this new streaming feature as well as Sony’s announcement of PS2 backwards compatibility appear intended to change that.
