Code4CT hacking event to help mobile innovation in healthcare

Next month a group of Cape Town teenage girls will be coding up a storm to find ways to help assit community health practitioners and patients.

Hosted by girls’ coding programme, Code4CT, the Heath CodeStorm takes place between the 7th and 9th of December at the Groote Schuur Hospital Inclusive Innovation Hub. The initiative is a partnership between the health facility and the University of Cape Town to enable inclusive healthcare innovation.

Health CodeStorm participants will spend the three days creating mobile apps on the on the Mobenzi coding platform, aimed at supporting maternal health workers as well as expectant and new mothers.

A preparatory JavaScript course will be held from the 2nd to 4th December at Cape Town Central Library’s American Corner to prepare the girls for the Health CodeStorm.

Code4CT is looking for tutors with a good knowledge of JavaScript and JQuery, who are willing to volunteer their time and knowledge during both or either of the three day events. If you’re interested in tutoring, you can apply by filling in this form on the Code4CT website.
