The Stanley Parable’s developer will release his next game on Friday

If you ever played the indie (and Bafta-nominated) hit, The Stanley Parable, you’ll remember it as a surreal narrative-driven excursion that commented at length on the limits of player-agency in games.

It wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea – our own Brendyn Lotz has described it as ‘fun if somewhat limited’ – but between the game’s rather engaging narration and its Kafka-esque setting, The Stanley Parable certainly stood out from some of the bland indie fare available.

One of the game’s designers, William Pugh, announced back in October that he was starting a studio called Crows Crows Crows. He then tweeted that the new studio’s first game would arrive rather soon.

Turns out Pugh is as honest as his Twitter handle infers; apparently the first game from Crows Crows Crows is due out on Steam this week. Tomorrow, in fact.

Eurogamer has noted that a countdown clock has appeared on the studio’s website and is due to run out at 5pm UK time (that would be 7pm local time).

According to the gaming site, details about the Pugh’s new title are rather thin on the ground, but they have reported that the developer described it as “a strange and whirlwind sort of heist game,” and that “it’s between 15 and 20 minutes long.”

Apparently it will also star British comedian Simon Amstell, who’s last high profile gig was as host of the music quiz panel show, Never Mind The Buzzcocks.

Other than that we don’t really know what to expect from the game, although if Pugh’s previous efforts are anything to go by, it’s bound to be unconventional. Watch this space.
