This is how easy it is to sign up for Netflix in South Africa

The moment that every movie fanatic in South Africa has been waiting for has finally arrived, as Netflix CEO Reed Hastings announced tonight (6 January) that the mega streaming giant is now live in South Africa.

“Today, I am delighted to announce that while we have been here on stage at CES, we switched Netflix in Azerbaijan, in Vietnam, in India, in Nigeria, in Poland, in Russia, in Saudi Arabia, in Singapore, in South Korea, in Turkey, in Indonesia, and in 130 new countries,” he said during his CES keynote.

While that is fine and dandy, how does one go about getting the service in South Africa, without the need to go through a VPN anymore?

Step 1 – Visit the website

The first thing you have to do, is visit https://www.netflix.com/za/

Step 2 – Click the link

As you can see on the screenshot above, you simply click on the ‘Start your free month’ button.

Step 3 – Choose your package

After clicking on the link, you will be presented with three different options: Basic, Standard and Premium.

For $8, the Basic package allows for one screen you can watch on, and content will only be streamed in Standard Definition (SD). It does allow for unlimited movies and TV shows, you can cancel at any time, and includes a free month.

The Standard package, which is the most popular at $10, provides content in High Definition (HD), allow for two simultaneous log-ins (meaning that different content can be streamed on two different screens), and also includes a free month.

For $12, the Premium package provides content in Ultra HD, allows for four simultaneous log-ins and includes all the other benefits such as a month free.

Netflix Step 4 – Create your account

Once you are satisfied with the package you have chosen, create an account with an email address that you want associated with it. This is the email address that you will use every time you want to sign in to the service.

Step 5 – Payment details

After creating an account, you will need to pay Netflix – of course. Here, you can pay with a credit card or a PayPal account, but a debit card should work just fine if it has a CCV number at the back. Don’t worry, Netflix securely stores your card details, and will only bill you once you free trial month is over. If you cancel within the month, no money will be deducted. However, online companie sometimes deduct $1 and refunds you, as they just want to make sure that the card is legitimate.

Step 6 – Get watching!

Once everything has been clear, checked and triple checked, the only thing left for you to do is to sign in to your account, and decide what you want to binge watch first.

Happy watching!
