Strap on a Fitbit Blaze smartwatch from March

Fitness tracking wearable manufacturer Fitbit has unveiled details surrounding its first ever smartwatch, the Fitbit Blaze which will be available in South Africa from March.

The Fitbit Blaze will feature interchangeable straps made from genuine leather, stainless steel and of course, the familiar elastomer that is currently used in the majority of Fitbit wearables.

New additions to the Blaze include apps such as the FitStar Personal Trainer, which will let users follow a workout on the Blaze’s screen regardless of internet connection.

The SmartTrack app seems very cool because according to Fitbit it will be able to automatically detect workouts such as cycling, hiking and even dancing and record these activities as part of your workout.

Being a smartwatch, the Fitbit Blaze is able to connect to approximately 200 phones and tablets running Android, iOS or Windows operating systems. Once connected to a smartphone users will be able to make and receive calls as well as see notifications for messages and calendar events.

According to Fitbit, the Blaze will last for five days on a single charge which is an astounding claim given that the Apple Watch makes it to just shy of a day.

Unfortunately at time of writing there is no mention of a South African price but we do know that the US pricing has been set at $199.95 (R3 186,31) so we expect the Blaze to retail for around that price when it lands here in March.
