The Huawei MediaPad T1 is big and small and starts at R1 700

One of our pet peeves here at htxt.africa is the battery life of our devices running out half way through the day.

Of course a battery pack is a simple answer but why manufacturers can’t just give us bigger batteries is a daily debate.

Today Huawei has released a tablet that might save save us from this debate because it has a huge battery, according to the label.

The tablet in question is the Huawei MediaPad T1 and has two display sizes to choose from, a 7inch and the larger 10inch slate. Strangely, the two versions are vastly different from each other, not just on the screen side of things.

The 7inch version has an IPS touchscreen with a resolution of 600×1 024 and a pixel density of 170ppi. The brain underneath the display is a Spreadtrum SC7731G chipset with a Quad-core CPU operating at 1.2GHz. We aren’t all to familiar with this manufacturer so we can’t comment on the power, its efficiency or anything really until we’ve tested it out.

Powering the 7inch MediaPad is a huge non-removable Li-Ion 4 100mAh battery. At the back of the slate you’ll find a 2MP camera with the same size sensor at the front for video calls or selfies.

Would you like to supersize your MediaPad?

Other than the 9.6inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 800×1 280p, the 10inch is very different from the 7inch version. Instead of the Spreadtrum setup, Huawei has fitted the larger slate with a Qualcomm chipset.

To be precise, the Qualcomm MSM8916 Snapdragon 410 is the chipset being used with the Quad-core 1.2GHz Cortex-A53 CPU handling the brunt work and a Adreno 306 handling the graphics.

The 10inch version also has a larger, 5MP snapper at the back of the pad and a 2MP camera like its smaller counterpart.

The battery in the 10 inch is massive, but then it has to be to power the larger display. The non-removable 4 800 mAh Li-Po battery is said to have 10 hours of talk-time, though we’re taking that with a grain of salt until we’re able to test it ourselves.

Unfortunately, the 7inch tablet only has 8GB of internal memory and the 10inch has 16GB. That said, there is support in both versions for a microSD card.

The MediaPad T1 also boasts an HDMI port so that you can view what’s happening on your Android tablet on your TV whether its smart or not.

In terms of sheer battery power the MediaPad seems very tempting, the rest of the specifications are not all that great. For instance 1GB of RAM seems rather minimalistic, especially for the 10inch version.

With that in mind, we haven’t actually tested the Huawei slates out so we’ll hold off our cynicism until we’ve held it up close and run the tablet through our gauntlet.

For those that simply cannot wait for that, the Huawei MediaPad T1 7inch is available right now for R1 699 on Takealot and the 10inch version is yours for R3 499 from Takealot.
