Selected Telkom DSL customers can test fibre connectivity for free

As many as 11 000 Telkom DSL customers will be given the chance to upgrade their line to test high-speed Telkom fibre connectivity for two months.

From 2nd February customers will be able to apply for a fibre upgrade to their existing internet connection. This means that users will still get speeds of 2Mbps, 4Mbps and 8Mbps but will use a fibre line rather than copper.

Over the course of the trial customers can use this connection to test Telkom’s Boltspeed 20Mbps and 40Mbps to decide whether the faster speeds are something they would prefer on a more permanent basis.

Telkom has said that no installation fee will be charged for customers entering the trial as long as no additional alterations need to be done to install the fibre to the home.

Managing Director for Telkom Consumer, Attila Vitai said in a statement, “We want to take this high performing technology into our customer’s homes, businesses and schools. This unique trial offer is a win-win for customers in that we will migrate them to our Telkom fibre, at no additional cost.”

Once the two month trial has concluded customers will be on Telkom’s fibre network rather than reverting to its copper network. This means that users can keep their 2Mbps, 4Mbps or 8Mbps packages or upgrade them to the faster Boltspeed packages.

Vitai has said that the firm is working to secure installations within 7 to ten days from time of order.

As we mentioned the trial only starts tomorrow and if you’re a Telkom DSL customer that could do with a speed upgrade, this fibre offering from Telkom may well be right up your alley.

Now, if Telkom would only tell us how to apply…
