Insufficient funds delay Bloodhound land speed record until next year

We have been very excited ever about the Bloodhound supersonic car planned attempt at a new land speed record in South Africa, since it was announced a couple of years ago.

The project has had many ups and downs, scheduled to take place last year and eventually got shifted to October 2016 due to technical reasons. Today the company behind the attempt announced that it will now only happen next year – due to dwindling funds.

“What we need now are the funds to run the car and money is just a function of perseverance and timing. Doing something truly unique, on a global scale, with such high technology, is never easy – ask Richard Branson or Elon Musk, but that makes the story we’re sharing with millions of supporters all the more interesting,” said Bloodhound SSC said in a statement.

The setback doesn’t seem to be a very big deal to the company, as it said that it has already achieved some of the goals it set out to do – which is educating people, and especially kids, about the project.

“The Project is achieving its primary goal even without the car running: we’re turning kids on to science and engineering,” Bloodhound SSC said. “Over 100,000 children took part in BLOODHOUND lessons or events in the UK last year, with many more involved internationally including almost 1,200 schools registered on the education programme in South Africa.”
