DOOM has a release date

Bethesda has announced that DOOM, id Software’s reboot of its iconic shooter series will be released on the 13th May this year.

Mark your calendars, kids, because on that day it looks like hell awaits us all.

DOOM will be landing on PS4, Xbox One and PC (sorry, Nintendo owners) and Bethesda has also announced that there will be a Premium Collector’s Edition – and yes, it will be available in South Africa.

Included in this rather lush limited edition will be a collector’s statue of the Revenant (the demon from DOOM, not the Leonardo DiCaprio film). Standing at 12″ tall, the Revenant will stand on an LED-lit base cast in the shape of turbine from the UAC base on Mars. You’ll also get a metal case for your game in the package.

All of this demonic goodness isn’t cheap, mind you; the DOOM Collector’s Edition is around £100 in the UK (around R2,300 locally). However, if you preorder it or even just the standard version of the game, you’ll receive the Demon Multiplayer Pack, which gifts your avatar with a demon armour set – it comes with three skins and patterns you can apply to them.

You also get six Hack Modules. We have no idea what those are, but Bethesda’s description of them is that they’re “one-time consumable items that can give you an edge in a multiplayer match”. Lovely!

We have to say that we’ve been itching to get to grips with DOOM ever since we saw it blow up Bethesda’s E3 keynote last year. If this is the first time you’re hearing about the game, have a gander at the new campaign footage released today just below. Fair warning: it is very graphic, but hey, it’s DOOM so you probably knew that already.

Excited much? Let us know in the comment section or on our Facebook page.
