It was inevitable that Bethesda would produce some DLC for Fallout 4.

The developer has become something of an industry standard when it comes to tossing players huge expansions – the DLC packs for Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim were lengthy enough that they could have been considered standalone titles themselves.

So the news that Fallout 4 is about to receive a boatload of DLC isn’t much of a shock. What is surprising, however, is that the game is about to receive so much additional content that the price of its season pass is about to go up.

Now, for all of you who already purchased the season pass – don’t worry! There is going to be no additional cost to you as you at all. For the rest of you however, if you want to purchase the season pass at its current price – £24.99 (that’s just about R570 although we can its R399 on Steam) – you have until 1st of March to do so.

After that the price is going up to £39.99. That’s roughly R902 – although we don’t know if that’s what it’ll cost on Steam – and that’s roughly the price of a brand new box copy game.

Now that we have the bad news out of the way – here’s he good news: Fallout 4 players will receive a ton of DLC over the next three months in the form of the Automatron, Wasteland Workshop and Far Harbor (sic).

Fallout 4 DLC Details

The Automatron pack lands in March and it pits players against an army of evil robots that invade the Commonwealth at the behest of a shady figure called the Mechanist. Players are tasked with fighting back and building their own robot allies from scrap and thanks to the hundreds of mods available they’ll be able to customise their robo-buddies pretty extensively. 

Wasteland Workshop turns players into post-apocalyptic game hunters. They’ll be able to design and set cages to capture some of the Wasteland including Deathclaws, which they can tame to be allies or set them against any NPCs they don’t like. There are also new design suites available for their settlements. This DLC drops in April.

Far Harbor arrives in May it introduces a new environment – much in the same way the three DLC packs for Fallout 3 did. Players head off to the island of Far Harbor where radiation levels have created what Bethesda has called ‘a more feral world’, which we take to mean ‘make sure your level cap is at an all time high before you even attempt this’. 

Fallout 4 DLC: Play the beta

There’s more good news: Bethesda will be running closed betas for each of the DLC packs and you fancy playing them, you can sign up on Bethesda.net. Applicants will be picked out in the next couple of weeks and those who take part in it don’t have to buy the add-on. 

Yes, you read that right: testers get the DLC (at least the one they take part in the beta for) for free.

Bethesda’s also in the process of overhauling the game’s Survival Mode and the Creation Kit and promises more details to come.

Looks like it’s not time to leave the Commonwealth just yet…
