Google Play starts serving up movies to South Africa

Google has just made a metric tonne of movies available for purchase and rental to South Africans through the Google Play store.

The online video on demand service has been live in 102 countries and now South Africa can enjoy the service as well. Just like South African video on demand service, Showmax, users can download movies to watch offline at a later stage or stream them from within the Google Play Movies and TV app.

At the moment new releases such as, Jurassic World will cost R149.99 each to purchase while renting a new release will set you back R34.99.

Older titles such as Ted, can be purchased for R119.99 or rented for an incredibly low R11.99.

As you would expect, once you purchase a movie it’s yours to enjoy for as long as you want. Renting a film will give you access to it for 30 days and once you start watching a movie you will have 48 hours to finishing watching it before the film expires.

At first glance the offering appears to be films that are coming out on DVD/Blu Ray now including The Intern, Black Mass, Fifty Shades of Grey and Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation.

The service is available now on Android and iOS through the Google Play Movies and TV app. You can also access the service through the Google Play website.
