John McAfee believes his hackers can crack the iPhone for the FBI

Self proclaimed “cybersecurity legend” and US Libertarian party presidential candidate, John McAfee has offered to unlock an iPhone 5C currently at the centre of an investigation into the San Bernadino massacre of December 2015.

The iPhone in question is locked with a passcode. These are usually easy to overcome with a brute force attack where passcodes can be guessed over and over again until the right one comes up and access is granted.

The trouble is that Apple has a safe guard in place to prevent that from happening. Once you’ve entered a passcode incorrectly 10 times, the data on that iPhone will be wiped which is not what the FBI wants.

However, McAfee believes that the team of hackers he works with are better than some paltry security measure put in place by one of the largest technology firms in the world, and by extension, the FBI.

“I work with a team of the best hackers on the planet,” McAfee proclaimed in an op-ed published on Business Insider. He went on to add that all of the hackers are prodigies “with talents that defy normal human comprehension”.

Surely the FBI has some of the best hackers in the world though, or at least access to them? Thankfully McAfee set us right and informed the world that the FBI doesn’t have the best hackers in the world because of, well, it’s best if he explains.

“And why do the best hackers on the planet not work for the FBI? Because the FBI will not hire anyone with a 24-inch purple mohawk, 10-gauge ear piercings, and a tattooed face who demands to smoke weed while working and won’t work for less than a half-million dollars a year.”

Thanks for clearing that up John.

McAfee goes on to claim that the team of hackers would use social engineering to crack the passcode, which would be a legitimate claim to make, if there was anybody to social engineer. Both of the shooters responsible for massacre are dead, so how exactly McAfee plans to do that is a mystery to us.

Despite this, McAfee has said that in 3 weeks the iPhone will be unlocked. However, should McAfee be unable to crack the phone he has said, “I would eat my shoe on the Neil Cavuto show if we could not break the encryption on the San Bernardino phone.”

The only question that remains then is, does one drink white or red wine with loafers?
