Get a free Gear VR when you pre-order a Samsung Galaxy S7 through Cell C and MTN

We’ve been drooling over the pictures of the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge since the handset was announced on Sunday at MWC 2016 and it looks like South Africans won’t have to wait much longer to get one.

Two of South Africa’s mobile network operators, namely Cell C and MTN, have opened pre-registration for Samsung S7 and S7 Edge online. You may recall that Samsung said that those who pre-order a Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge will get a free Gear VR headset, and South Africa is in on that deal.

That’s right, according to the terms and conditions on the Samsung website, those that purchase the new Galaxy S7 handset between 11 and 20 March will be eligible for the VR headset. This also applies to contract deals as well so don’t worry about having to buy the phone outright.

Samsung also makes mention of users needing to download an app through which they will need to redeem the Gear VR. The Samsung Rewards app will need to be downloaded and the Gear VR activated through the app between 11th and 20th March.

The Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge coming to South Africa will be using the firm’s own octa-core Exynos 8990 processor and the GPU is said to push out 60% more power than the Galaxy S6 series. Battery duties are taken care of by 3 000mAh and 3 600mAh in the S7 and S7 Edge respectively.

We’re also very happy to report that Samsung has fitted a microSD card slot to the new S7 range and the 16GB internal storage we lament so much has been replaced with 32GB.

The Samsung Galaxy S7 goes on sale on 11th March and if you want one with the Gear VR headset make sure you secure your pre-order with either MTN or Cell C before then. Sadly we don’t know anything about price yet, but that’s what contracts are for right?
