MEC of finance, Barbara Creecy, has allocated R3 billion towards education in the province.

Creecy revealed this during the #GautengBudgetSpeech2016 delivered at the Gauteng Legislature in Johannesburg this morning.

TheR3 billion will go towards the completion of twelve new schools currently at construction stage and rehabilitation of 123 existing schools.

Part of the budget will also go towards full ICT resources for all grades in 26 schools starting in April, a plan mentioned by MEC of education Panyaza Lesufi last month.

The Department of Education will also get R36.4 million “to strengthen the internal capacity for project and programme management in order to provide technical support in the implementation of the infrastructure programme,” Creecy said.

The total 2016/17 Gauteng budget was tabled at R103 billion.
