Ostrich-chasing video goes viral racks up millions of views

At htxt.africa we love a good laugh. By now most of you should have seen the YouTube video of the ostrich chasing down two cyclists at Cape of Good Hope in the Western Cape.

While the speed and determination of the ostrich is hilarious, the funniest thing about the clip is that cyclist Oleksiy Mishchenko can’t stop laughing while filming.

But the most astonishing thing about the entire encounter is that the video has over the last four days started to make the rounds on various platforms worldwide – managing to rack up 2.6 million views this week alone.

“We came down to South Africa for the Cape Argus Tour. It is the biggest cycling event in the world, probably. On Friday, to stretch out the legs we went on pre-race ride to the Cape of Good Hope,” explains Mishchenko in the description.

“Suddenly, I spotted a white ostrich on my left, then this beast jumped on the road from the right and started chasing my friends! It was a little scary at first, but then I thought I’m gonna fall off my bike from laughter. The ostrich didn’t have any problem to keep up at 50km/h and apparently they do 70km/h with no sweat,” he added.

It really is one of the funniest videos we have seen in a long time. It’s a good thing the feathered racer gave up after a couple of minutes, as Mishchenko says the road they were on stops in a dead-end.

Have a look at the video and see for yourself.
