In the tech media, we’re often lucky enough to end up with extraneous tech that we don’t need. Like this Gear VR headset, for instance.
So, being the awesome people we are, we thought we’d give it away to a lucky reader, who can use it as the gateway to the world of virtual reality, where pretend rollercoasters have the power to scare almost as intensely as real ones and 360-degree videos place you right in the middle of the action.
There is a catch, however: to make use of the Gear VR headset, you need to have a Galaxy Note5, S6 or S6 edge smartphone, as the Gear VR doesn’t work with any other handsets. And to be clear, there is no phone on offer here – all we’re giving away is the Gear VR headset itself.
The headset is worth $99, so whatever that translates to in rands may depend on the day you read this. Expect it to come in at around R1550, or thereabouts.
To enter, Tweet us @htxtafrica with the hashtag #gearvrhtxt and tell us what you’re looking forward to most about virtual reality, or why you think it’s going to be a dismal failure just as it was back in the 1990s. Or just anything VR-related, really – we’re not fussy.
We’ll let that run until next Friday, when we’ll choose a winner at random from all the entries received; we’re just getting you to give us some kind of answer to make sure you’re not bots, plus we figure it’ll make for some interesting reading.
The best answers will be pulled and showcased in the winner announcement, so get creative if you want to see your name in print.
