ShowMax and kykNET International have launched a rather heart-warming competition that will appeal to those South Africans with Afrikaans-speaking friends and family abroad.

The video on demand service has teamed up with local channel kykNET International to give away four return tickets to South Africa to a new subscriber who signs up for the ShowMax and kykNET International services online. For those that are already subscribers, you’ve already been entered into the draw.

To enter and stand a chance to win, people simply need to head to the ShowMax web portal and sign up to watch the kykNET International catalogue of shows.

The catalogue, which is 12 000 titles strong, includes series like Binnelanders, Getroud met Rugby and shows for the little ones like Tjiff & Tjaff.

Before you get too excited, there is a catch: the terms and conditions state that the competition is open to “only South Africans, with valid travel documents and permissions, living in the following countries”: Andorra, Austria, Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, San Marino, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, United Kingdom, and the United States.

ShowMax has also said that the prize will be valid for six months after the winner is announced in May, which means that your friends, or family could be home in time for Heritage Day in September.

ShowMax has announced a US dollar price of $8.99 for expats. That’s R136.33 in Rand terms, which is more expensive than the R99 flat rate South Africans currently pay for a ShowMax subscription.

The competition opens today and will run until the 30th April, so share this with your expat mates. The video below should help to stoke the fires of their homesickness as well.

Omtrent as hulle Afrikaans kan praat.
