Watch the final race of the World Drone Prix

We wrote about the World Drone Prix a few weeks ago as a very flash ad for it pitted a little multicopter against a McLaren P1 supercar.

Now the competition is over and, if you missed the livestream, you can still see the final race from a first person perspective.

Unfortunately, the video is so sparse in detail that it doesn’t even have a description attached to it. We have no idea which drone this video was ripped from or who the team behind it was. All we know is that it’s from the last race of the contest.

A word of warning before you hit the play button: if you’re prone to motion sickness you’re not going to have a good time here. Not only is it in first person, but the violent (and impressive) movements pulled off here may make you nauseas.

Also, don’t worry about the sound, there’s no music and the drone’s motors make a hell of an irritating racked throughout.

The winner of the event was a rather young fellow from the UK named Luke Bannister from the Tornado X-Blades Banni UK team. The 15-year-old won his team $250 000 (R3 841 650) of the $1 million (R15 366 600) prize pool.

We don’t want to come off as jealous here, but when we were fifteen we definitely weren’t flying to Dubai to partake in a global competition with millions of rands in prize money on the line. This lucky kid has a story that would probably impress the likes of Elon Musk, and he’s basically Iron Man at this point.

Hopefully this event helps propel (no, just no – ed.) drone racing into the limelight as it becomes a more organised sport with bigger prizes.
