How to check online if you are registered to vote

The final registration period for the 2016 Municipal Elections is this weekend, on 9 and 10 April 2016, and you must be registered to cast your ballot.

If you are still unsure on whether or not you are registered to vote in the area that you live in, the Electoral Commission of South Africa has a really nifty (and very easy to use) website that you make use of.

Step 1

Going to www.elections.org.za, you will immediately see a huge box with the question ‘Am I Registered?’ If you see that, you are in the right place.

Step 2

From there, simply enter your ID number and the verification code displayed underneath. Once you hit ‘submit’, it will show if you are registered or not. It will also provide you with details on your polling station, and its address.

It is that simple!

Other ways

Not everybody has access to the internet, so there are other ways that you can easily check to see if you are registered.

SMS:
32810 (SMS your ID number for your registration status
and details of the current voting station)

USSD:
*120*432# or *120*IEC#

Contact Centre:
