The Bafta (that is British Academy of Film and Television Arts) Videogame Awards were held last night in London and Fallout 4 walked away with top honours.
If you’ve never heard of it, the Bafta Videogame Awards honour both British and international titles from the year preceding the award ceremony and it’s basically the closest thing the games industry has to the Oscars.
Bethesda’s post apocalyptic open world RPG won the Bafta Award for best game, beating the likes of The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt, Rocket League, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, Everybody’s Gone To Rapture and Life Is Strange.
It was a good night for the indies as Everybody’s Gone To Rapture, Her Story and Rocket League walked away with three Bafta Awards each.
Rocket League won the Family Game, Multiplayer and Sport Awards, Her Story took the gongs forDebut Game, Game Innovation and Mobile & Handheld and Everybody’s Gone To Rapture won Audio Achievement, Music and best performer for Merle Dandridge.
Most of the triple A titles nominated for a Bafta Award were roundly ignored with the likes of Hearthstone, The Witcher 3, Fifa 16 and Metal Gear Solid V going home empty-handed. Perhaps the biggest titles that took gongs on the night were Batman: Arkham Knight (Best British Game), Until Dawn (Original Property), Bloodborne (Game Design) and Life Is Strange (Story).
