Don’t skimp on storage: meet the gaming notebooks that will never run out of space

Games get bigger and bigger, but the storage space on your laptop doesn’t. Which makes that dreaded decision inevitable: which game will have to be removed from your library?

Unless, that is, your laptop was designed with upgradeable storage in mind. An easy system for adding extra gigabytes without having to delete or reformat anything at all.

Allow us to introduce the P55 and P57 range from Gigabyte. While the luminescent orange trim does set them apart from the rest of the herd, its the expansion options these two laptops offer that will really put a twinkle in the eye of gamers.

Expansive storage

Both the P55 and P57 laptops come with storage capacity options that include up to 2TB via traditional hard disk drive, as well as a 512GB M.2 SATA SSD for lightning fast read speeds of up to 2000MB/s.

That’s four times faster than previous SSD technology.

Both the P55 and P57 combine great performance with a svelte build and great looks.

The real joy, though is Gigabyte’s Swappable Storage Bay. By default, the P57 and P55 are equipped with a DVD optical drive but with the press of a button that can be swapped out for a Blu-ray drive, a weight saver or a 2.5inch HDD or SSD with a maximum capacity of 2TB.

No more having to decided which games stay and which games go.

The next generation, now

There’s no compromise on performance, either. Both machines are powered by the latest Intel 6th Generation Core processors, and the top-end models feature a Core i7-6700HQ with a maximum speed of 3.5GHz and a base clock speed of 2.6GHz.

Default loadouts include 16GB of DDR4 2133MHz RAM, and an option to increase that to 32GB if you worry the need will arise.

Of course fast loading times and a powerful CPU aren’t all it takes to bring your games to life. Both the P57 and P55 laptops boast a Full HD display in a 17.3inch and 15.6inch variant respectively. The IPS panels that Gigabyte uses in these displays allow for excellent viewing angles and even better colour depth.

To drive these beautiful displays Gigabyte has included Intel HD Graphics 530 for less demanding applications like surfing the web and watching a movie but when you decide to fire up a game, an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M with 3GB of GDDR5 memory is ready to make your pixels come to life.

One would think all of this customisation, speed and gaming glory would come at a cost that is well beyond the reach of any gamer but both models are available at this link from R23 999 depending on configuration.

And the value of never having to delete anything again, is priceless.
