Get your flu shot delivered by Uber

Getting the flu can be a real pain in the backside, but luckily ride-requesting service Uber is making sure that the country is healthy for the upcoming winter flu season.

Together with Discovery Health and Dis-Chem, the company will bring a flu shot right to where you are – just to make sure you don’t get sick.

“We’ve partnered with Discovery and Dis-Chem to bring you flu vaccinations on demand, between 10:00 and 15:00 on Friday, 22 April 2016,” Uber said in a blog post.

The company also explained how it works:

  • Open your Uber app at 10:00 AM on Friday, 22 April
  • Navigate over to the cross icon and select UberHEALTH
  • Set your pickup location and request a ride as you normally would
  • If successful, a Discovery-accredited Dis-Chem nurse will arrive at your location within minutes, ready to administer flu vaccinations for up to five patients (at a flat rate of only R100!)
  • Demand will be through the roof, so it’s fastest fingers first!

Uber also asked that select a suitable indoor location be readied prior to UberHEALTH arriving, and emphasised that a lot of people will be requesting the service.

“Demand will be high, so please be patient. Should you be unable to request your on-demand flu vaccination, we encourage you to visit your closest Dis-Chem store to get your flu vaccination as soon as possible,” it said.

There are also a few other Ts&Cs, like you must be 18 years or older to request the UberHEALTH service, which is available in selected areas of Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, Durban and Port Elizabeth.

And remember, all it’s going to set you back is R100, which covers the transport cost – the actual vaccine is free.
