Play Fallout New Vegas as a choose your own adventure novel, entirely on YouTube

Choose your own adventure novels – clever literary puzzles in which you make choices and turn a book into a faux RPG – may have been the mainstay for many people’s childhoods, but they’re not nearly as popular anymore.

YouTube content creator Many A True Nerd wants to fix that with “Fallout: New Vegas – Choose Your Own Apocalypse“.

The premise is simple: you need to make it to the New Vegas strip as the Courier, and the videos will detail your expedition. At certain key points you’ll be given various options via on-screen annotations. Click on a choice and you’ll be moved to an unlisted video showing the consequences of your actions. if you’re lucky, it will move you closer to The Strip. if you’re unlucky, you’ll die horribly and you’ll need to start again from the beginning.

Without spoiling the entire plot and all the choices you can make (there’s a lot of them), we did manage to finish the quest in under 30 minutes. Each video, despite having to illustrate your choice and set up the next one, is never longer than 3 minutes. You’ll be burning time if you start from the beginning every time you fail, however, so we cheated by just going back to our previous (incorrect) choices and redoing them.

The only other caveat here is that this works best at a desktop PC of some kind, as the YouTube annotations will only work there. The creator has been kind enough to also put the choices as links in the description, so it will also work almost anywhere that can play a video.

Good luck, and don’t get killed by Deathclaws (like we were, multiple times).
