AG Mobile has partnered with one of the nations most celebrated hip-hop artists, Cassper Nyovest to launch a low cost smartphone that doesn’t skimp on features.

The, AG#Hashtag as it’s known, has been created in partnership with Nyovest who had a hand in picking the bright red paint job for the handset, among other things.

Other than its loud red colour, the AG#Hashtag features a 5.5inch high definition IPS display protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. Beneath that display is a MediaTek 1.5GHz octa-core processor that is paired with 2GB of RAM.

Speaking the handset, Nyovest said in a statement, “it was designed for someone who loves music, being in the mix, and socialising with their crew. Basically it has everything I would want in a phone.”

While loading the AG#Hashtag to the brim with music won’t take much time at all thanks to the rather tiny 16GB internal storage space, there is space for a microSD card with a maximum capacity of 128GB.

For those that would rather fill the handset up with selfies, the handset has both a 13MP rear camera as well as a 5MP camera on the front.

The 2 500mAh battery is equipped with fast charging so the time the AG#Hashtag spends tethered to the wall should be reduced, but we can’t help but feel the capacity is a bit on the small side.

So the AG#Hashtag is a middle weight smartphone then, and the price is actually rather tempting. Buying the handset outright will set you back R3 499 while on an MTN MyChoice contract the handset will cost you R229 per month over 24 months.

For anybody wanting to get their hands on an AG#Hashtag you will have to pre-order the handset from MTN between today (19th April) and 10th May. This pre-order will net you an protective back cover signed by Nyovest himself as well as limited edition headphones.
