Gauteng schools registration website only goes live at 10am

After a rather spectacular crash last week, the Gauteng Department of Education will relaunch its online admissions website for 2017 this morning at 10am.

Initially the website was supposed to go live at 8am, but due to some minor technical issues, it has been delayed by two hours.

The initial influx of requests from parents who wanted to register their children for schools in Gauteng caused the newly-created website to crash, leading to the Department of Education to take it offline to smooth out the errors.

Gauteng MEC of education Panyaza Lesufi said that 18 servers have been made available this time around to cope with the anticipated flood of registration attempts, and added that the website can handle about 3 000 requests a second.

At the time of the first launch, the website received 600 requests a second. “We received 600 hits per second and it was beyond our capacity. Parents must not panic,” Lesufi said at the time.

Earlier this morning Lesufi tweeted that they system was up and running, but not yet ready for registrations.

Better safe than sorry, Lesufi was responsible for the 8am halt.

Once it is up and running, check out our guide on how to apply.
