Learn how to survive Antarctica in the name of science at #TechTalkCPT

#TechTalkCPT (or Tech Talk Cape Town if you’re not a robot) is a monthly event hosted by the fine folks and makers over at KAT-O, and the upcoming lecture they have planned is focused around research in Antarctica.

The lecture takes place next week on the 4th of May, and Daleel Lilla, an engineer at the South African National Space Agency, will be the speaker on the night.

Lilla had the terrible privilege of spending a year in Antarctica working on the SuperDARN Radar. If “SuperDARN” isn’t a cool enough name for you, we have to point out that Mr Lilla is also a photographer who goes under the nickname “AfroEskimo”. Here’s a picture from his Instagram account.

Please note: that’s an interesting formation of snow, not the tail of an albino dragon (as we thought).

If this night doesn’t sound cool enough, we have some more good news: if you use the promotional code “htxt” when buying your tickets from KAT-O (via Quicket), you’ll get a 20% discount. This will bring the individual ticket price down from R100 to R80.

And even better: we have four tickets to give away. All you need to do is tweet us (@htxtafrica) what object you’d 3D print and why, using the hashtag #TechTalkCPThtxt, and we’ll give the tickets to the four people whose answers tickle our fancy the most.

Please note: this event is in Cape Town only, so if you are unable to attend please don’t enter our giveaway.
