Want to get paid a decent salary? Avoid working in these areas

Chatsworth, Kuruman and Ga-Segonyana are the hardest areas in South Africa to find a job and pay the lowest average salary, according to job ads site, Adzuna.

In a study done of over 110 000 job vacancies and salaries posted on its site this month, Adzuna ranked the best and worst cities to find a job and get paid a decent salary, after analysing the distribution of job titles and categories.

Unsurprisingly, the top three cities to find a job are Johannesburg, Cape Town and the City of Tshwane.

What is surprising though, is that Gauteng isn’t ranked the best paying province and is instead overtaken by the North West and Limpopo.

Working in Chatsworth, you’ll earn an average salary of around R80 000 per year.

“Employers are loosening the purse strings – Average salaries in a number of cities are rising, which may reflect a deeper need to attract rarer skills, as well as line up with the current inflation figures. South Africans saw a 6% rise in salaries offered for the same positions over the first quarter of 2016,” Adzuna said in a statement.

In terms of the top hiring industries, IT came out tops, followed by engineering and accounting/finance.

“South Africa is facing some tough economic times, due to a number of global pressures as well as local events” said Jesse Green, Country Manager for Adzuna in South Africa. “This can be seen in the rise in salaries and the amount of positions, as companies vie for talent and attract skills with much needed higher wages. The data also reflects the Reserve Bank’s recent decisions to increase the interest rate.”
