The Division cheaters to be banned for two weeks

Since The Division launched last month, Ubisoft has been battling a plague of cheaters who have been exploiting in-game bugs to get ahead.

Some of the exploits have gifting players insane amounts of damager per second (DPS) allowing them to kill The Incursion boss incredibly easily.

Well, after much outcry from players who have been absolutely slaughtered in the Dark Zone due to their refusal to partake in the cheating, Ubisoft will be implementing new anti-cheat measures.

In a blog post on Friday, Ubisoft said that players caught cheating will now be served with a 14-day suspension for the first offence, and a permanent ban on the second offence.

“We have implemented new cheat detection methods that have allowed us to identify many more players currently using cheat engines in the game. We have already caught more cheaters in the last few days than we had in total during the previous weeks. As a result, we will be handing out the biggest wave of suspensions and bans to date over the course of the next few days,” it said.

While those bans are related to the use of cheat engines, exploiting the numerous bugs in the game is a bit trickier. Never the less, Ubisoft is also taking a hard-and-fast approach to that as well – but cautions that some bugs may still be present after an update.

“We are currently reviewing our development and testing process to further minimize the amount and impact of these bugs going forward. In the event that a bug makes it into the game, and this bug can be used by players to gain an advantage, we need to be able to react and fix it, but also dissuade players from exploiting this bug until it is fixed. This is why moving forward we will adopt a stronger stance against players abusing exploits.”

Ubisoft didn’t detail exactly what punishment will be doled out for exploiters, just saying that “sanctions will be implemented for players who repeatedly abuse exploits and will vary depending on the severity of the abuse.”

It said that it could include character rollbacks, account suspensions and permanent bans.

Players will soon also not be able to claim that they didn’t know what they were doing was wrong, as Ubisoft will set up a public forum detailing all the known exploits.

“All known exploits will be clearly listed in a public forum thread and across our various communication platforms. We want all players to be informed. This will ensure that those caught after an exploit was confirmed are aware of the consequences and actions that can be taken against them.”
