LG G5 will cost R11 799, goes on sale in South Africa next week

The LG G5, winner of multiple awards at this year’s Mobile World Conference – including the award for “Best Mobile Handset and Devices” will go on sale in South Africa on 15th April. Yes, that’s next week Friday.

At a product launch held in the swanky Four Seasons hotel in WestCliff, Johannesburg this morning, LG revealed that the handset was targeted to land at R11,799, although prices across the different networks may vary depending on which package consumers choose.

Furthermore, the LG G5’s friends – that’s peripherals for the modular handset, in case you didn’t know – will start landing at South African retailers from the 22nd of April.

The ‘Friends’ line-up reads like a wishlist for gadget fans; alongside peripherals such as the LG Hi Fi Plus, LG Cam Plus, 360 Cam, there’s the 360 VR headset that can be tethered to the device and a cute rolling bot that can film and snap pictures with its 8MP camera.

The first three peripherals that will be made available for purchase are the LG Hi Fi Plus, the LG Cam Plus, the 360 Cam and the VR headset. The rest of the ‘Friends’ will presumably be arriving as the year progresses.

LG confirmed that their will be handset and ‘Friend’ bundles available for purchase but that these bundles will vary from retailer to retailer.

The LG G5 is admittedly a very snazzy-lloking handset but it’s the modular design and the ability to snap myriad new toys… er, ‘Friends’ to it that will probably give it a push in South Africa’s highly competitive smartphone market.
